For those that may have missed it, LittleBigPlanet was a big hit last night at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' 12th Annual Interactive Acheivement Awards in Las Vegas.  In addition to winning the Overall Game of the Year category, we were also honored with some incredible awards including:

  • Console Game of the Year
  • Family Game of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering
  • Outstanding Innovation in Gaming

And to cap it off, SackBoy picked up the eight award for Outstanding Character Performance.

So on behalf of us here at Sony and the Molecules, a sincere ‘Thank you’ to all the endless and incredible support of our LittleBigPlanet community and fans.  This is game is as much yours as it is ours.

In addition to being honored by AIAS, we were truly flattered that Beat Crusaders used our beloved SackBoy for their Phantom Planet music video.  Check it out!

Not sure if you caught it this past weekend, but our own little SackBoy was zipping (pun intended) around the track as part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, thanks to our friends at GameStop.  After laps and laps around Memphis Motorsports Park, the #20 LittleBigPlanet car, with Joey Logano at the wheel, finished 5th - putting him back in 1st place in the Nationwide Series owner standings.  SackBoy declined the post-race interview in order to greet his two biggest fans, "Walker" and "Texas Ranger".  LOL

For your viewing pleasure, we took some pictures before the race so you can see the car in all its LBP glory.

For those that still haven't pre-ordered, and just been waiting for official reviews to come out, there's no more excuses!

Over in the UK, the first major publication review came from The PlayStation Official Magazine (UK), which gave the game score of 10/10, calling it "a beautiful elegant and powerful creative took that puts unlimited potential in the palm of your hand".  The review concluded that it empowers you in a way that was previously confined to the PC modding scene and actual game developers, and you would have to have a 'sack for brains' to miss out on this one.

IGN scored it 9.5/10, stating the game was an "instant classic", and suggested that the game is massive, "one that is essentially two parts intertwined so well that they're pratically  inseperable.  Media Molecule has created a brillant platformer, and the given you the tools to recreate the whole thing over again, or better yet, to create your own ideas from scratch."  They also stated that the game may be the reason to buy a PLAYSTATION(R)3:"If you own a PS3, you cannot miss this.  If you don't have a PS3 yet, this is the reason to get one"

Be sure to check back for additional updates leading up to launch, there's much more reviews to be released.  We're hoping this will be the first of many 10/10 to come.

Now that the dust has settled from E3, we'd like to thank our gaming press for the AAA treatment (attention, acclaim and accolades)!  The past month we have been hammering away at finishing the game, so to have LBP getting so much attention was a huge pat on the back!  For those who missed it, here are a few of our favorite E3 coverage in this week’s edition of SackBoy in the news.  (Link away!)

"All I can say is that in E3’s closing minutes on Thursday, LBP was the one game I rushed back to play again." - The New York Times

"Time will tell if LittleBigPlanet will spark a revolution of YouTube proportions, but all the indications are that the game will be a joy to play even if you never delve into the creation of new content." – BBC

"This E3 properly justified the volume of hype that Little Big Planet had amassed since its startling debut at 2007's Game Developers Conference." - 1UP.com

"Like a fine wine, Media Molecule's DIY platformer seems to get better and better with time." – GameSpy

"Simply revolutionary." – Playboy
