LittleBigChallenge: The Golf Course Challenge

To celebrate the release of SackBoy in Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds we're putting together the first official LittleBigPlanet golf course where each hole is designed and created by the LBP community.

The best 9 holes and a driving range from North America and the most popular 9 holes and club house from Europe will be form the Official LittleBigPlanet Golf course. So not only can you win individual glory at having your hole selected, but your creation will forever be part of this course!

Every winning entry will be awarded a LittleBigPlanet prize crown, so start drafting up your designs and switch to create mode!  The Challenge has officially begun!

How to take part

To enter simply create and publish your hole or Driving Range in LittleBigPlanet before midnight on April 14 2009 (PST). What makes a good hole? That's entirely up to you - think Hot Shots Golf, think LittleBigPlanet, mash the two together and see what you can come up with.

So that we can easily identify entries and if you live in the US or Canada you are going to name your level in a specific way-

"LBPGolfNA" for US entries and or  “LBPGolfCA” for Canadian entries

You can then follow this name by either “Driving Range” or “Par 3, 4, 5” etc, depending on how long or difficult your level is.

For example:

  • “LBPGolfCA- Par 4” is a moderately difficult, average length hole from a Canadian Creator.
  • “LBPGolfNA- Driving Range” Driving Range from US Creator.

(Note- Driving Range levels are limited to the US for this Challenge.)

We’ll then have a two week voting period from Tuesday April 14th to Monday April 27th where you can play, vote and “heart” your favorite golf levels. Media Molecule will select the 9 winning holes and driving range for North America from eligible levels that get the best ratings during this time.

whats a driving range? and how do you "Design the hole" can you just make a block and then make the diagram of the course on that block in create mode or do you actually make the course?

a driving range is basically a large piece of terrain, where people try to hit golf balls as far as possiblle from one end.

I assume you have to build an actual level, as if it was a diagram you would have to do it on paper - but is the prize that our 2d levels get put on a 3d game?

Can a hole just be one where you hit the ball and it goes across the whole level, encountering machines that ultimately get it to the hole? Or does it have to be... You hit the ball, and then you find the ball and hit it again to the hole? I like the former better. I love to make machines and contraptions. Look out for my level!

Mm: You guys should make a new golfer costume to go with the challenge! Think Payne Stewart... He used to dress in the classic "golfer" style... Knickerbockers with a matching hat and vest, and a golf club accessory to carry! They would even go well with the color change settings. Payne used to wear the colors of the closest NFL team to where he was playing... He always had the support of the crowd.

Hey everyone! go and check out my level, I put 4 holes, and it came out really well. Has 3 different kinds of hitting. 2 Holes are custom hits. 3rd Hole is a giant club with a giant ball. And the last one, you pick up the club and hit the ball. I made it so that you can see the ball go into the hole, but it can be difficult at times!

they should have the crown. many ppl are gelaus. think on the ppl that are bad creators. they will never get the crown! many good creators never get it eiter. i want it! i am a good creator that never will get the crown. only dream about it. they should remove the crown or add it to the store. or in a patch becase its not everyone that have store in their contrys. luckly i have.

Very interesting Mm I'd love to see how this all plays out..,but i do have one question.. you said that it would be a whole course set up individually out of 18 separate holes how exactly would you mesh that all together to form a course. i mean each separate one will have a beginning and a end point would you edit it out? would you have to play every hole? i would just like that to be a bit clearer

Most likely, it'll play out like the story levels in that you start at the Driving Range, upon finishing that, hole 1 opens up, then 2, on through 18, followed by the Club House.

I think calling them holes is where the confusion is coming from, since they are essentially just 18 Golf-themed levels, with a "Driving Range" and a "Club House".

i have not iced something very important to this contest!!
here is the example shown for the contest.

i have noticed that many people have enterd the required name incorrectly. many people enter it similar to this: lbpgolfna-par4
they have left out the spaces. im not shure if this effects whether peaple are enterd into the contest. if so than many people may miss their chance of winning the contest and gaining a crown.

Plz come play my lvl LBPGolfNA Par-5 Caddy Sack. Its alot of fun. Its my best lvl yet. Each time u play its different depending on if u use different clubs. Trick shots earn u more points. I have all different types of hazards like gators & sand traps to name a few. 1 out of every 4 people that have played have hearted it so u will probably like it.

I have realised that I wasn't supposed to have two entries for the challenge. My mistake, I have delete one of the entries it had over two hundred hearts. I hope that my efforts and that of people that have enjoyed and hearted my golf level is not in vain. Again I may have ruined my chance in the competition, but I really hope not.

am going to just go and post here... to MM please i request that the list of all participant for the golf challlenge to be publish like for the first challenge.One reason is that i dont understand why some good levels like my LBPGolfNA level couldnt have win/some of the levels that win did not really do much to win althought i think one of them have deserve it his psn id FULLGORR.and another should have win too id. ChasEISgR8 that complain conserne only North America onlyif mm is as fair as we think it is they ll post the list
